          Local Scout Leader Recognized

                      Congratulations Tammy Smith

Columbus Grove Cub Scout Pack 227 Cubmaster Tammy Smith
was recently praised and heralded when it was announced that she was one of only thirteen Cub Scout Den Leaders in the state and testing a pilot program of a structured meeting requirements. This program permitted Tammy to spend less time trying to determine the schedule and more time planning the meetings resulting in the amazement at the success that she accomplished by other local scout leaders.

The program insured that the cub scouts in the den would meet the requirements for advancement to the next rank.  The program was such that Tammy had to sign a confidentiality agreement with the local district scout office, and only a couple of people at the district office in Findlay even knew about it.

Because of the success of the program Tammy was recognized at the Scouting University and will be one of a few writing a summary of the program to introduce other leaders to the program.

WOW !       Who wudda thunk !

When a committee of Columbus Grove citizens of Irish heritage, (namely Ed and Eve Cassidy, Sean and Christina Austin, Steve and Sue Wynn, and Fr. Ron Warnimont) decided to hold a meeting and "organize" the St. Patrick's Parade that over 260 people would be participating. The parade featured so many participants that the parade route was changed to lengthen it.

Laughing aside any possibility that 100 people would march, Steve had agreed to buy a kilt and show his Irish great, great grandparents his heritage in any subsequent St. Patricks parade. LOOK OUT 2009!

A special thanks to The American Legion.  There, Dan Risser and The American Legion served up corned beef and cabbage stew  Anderson's also donated Vienna bread.

$291.00 was raised and donated to The Lords Pantry food kitchen. The local cub and boy scouts along with the parade participants collected over 140 bags of food which were also donated to stock the pantry food shelves

Another very special thank you to Steve Wynn's high school classmate, Jim Kincaid who once again was drafted to fill a very important roll. Jim is a great sport and unbiased in all of the shoes that he fills when called upon. For St. Patrick's day Jim served as the judge and awarded medals which were donated by Hawkey's Pharmacy

Later that day the Easter Bunny arrived at Hawkey's and for many hours posed for photos.

                         CUB SCOUTING IN GROVE

The last month of so have seen the local Cub Scouts showing up almost everywhere.  Tammy Smith, Cubmaster of the local group has had the local cub scouts everywhere.

The annual Easter Egg hunt finally got under way after being delayed by a late season snow storm.  The scouts planted 1600 eggs which local kids found in about 20 minutes. That is enough sugar to go around and then some.

Also, an annual event, the Scouting for Food event, along with the 3rd Annual St. Patricks Parade, collected over 140 bags of food for The Lords Pantry.  Thanks to everyone that donated food.

The Cub Scouts along with the local boy scouts then took the prize for the most creative use of a pot of gold in the parade, by using the Yellow/Gold bags from the Scouting for Food drive as the Gold.

For the first time ever to their knowledge, when the annual Blue and Gold Banquet was celebrated, the Cub Scouts, themselves cooked a spaghetti dinner to feed their family and friends.  Response was excellent. Spaghetti and meat sauce, green beans, cheese/bread sticks, salad and ice cream sundaes.

A movie and pizza party for the Cub Scouts and their guests was held the following night and was attended by almost 40 people.

Next week some of the scouts will be hoping for some decent weather and camping out at Camp Berry near Findlay.

Congratulations Scouts, your activities are not going unnoticed.

Congratulations Pack 227
